Engines are high-tech products the manufacture of which involves innovative techniques. With their aid, just about any product can be manufactured today, except that to be saleable, it also needs to be affordable. Apart from making the necessary technical preparations for a new component or material MTU's manufacturing shops have to organize the entire process chain in a manner that secures the Munich site's international competitiveness.

Setting the trend in new constructions in recent years has been the blisk. In material and design, each blisk has its particularities, depending on its location in the engine, that need to be considered when selecting manufacturing processes (milling, linear friction welding, inductive high-frequency pressure welding or electrochemical machining).

In the field of testing and inspection MTU uses online in-process inspection and advanced techniques, such as computer tomography and ultrasonic inspection to reveal even the tiniest of flaws in components or to avoid the occurrence of defects during manufacture. At the same time, the company is continuously optimizing all of its manufacturing processes.
